Chen described the assailant as being about 18 years old. The victims later said he was wearing a black jacket and cap.

According to Sgt. Lawrence Price of the San Francisco police department, the suspect took off running and they are in the process of searching for the suspect.

Nobody knows if the couple was able to make their 1 p.m. flight back to Taipei. The whole tour group, about 30 employees of a Taiwan airline, were scheduled to leave then.

Your first sentence has the right info, but it sounds like a headline not a lead. Here's a lead:

Two Taiwanese tourists were robbed at gunpoint yesterday morning in the Saint Mary’s Cathedral parking lot.

Tighten it up! Cut unnecessary words and combine short sentences. For example: WeiMing Chen, 28, and his wife, Li Lu, 30, left their tour group at about 10 a.m. to take photos in cathedral's lower parking lot. That's when a man approached them, waving a pistol and demanding their money, said Sgt. Lawrence Price of the San Francisco Police Department.
